Sonnie Lee began marital arts career with Tae Kwon Do. Shortly thereafter, she stumbled onto Aikido and trained with various groups, including ASU, USAF, AAA, KENKUKAI, and a few other independent organizations. She eventually met Bob Galeone and began the martial arts of Escrima and Wu-Style Tai Chi Chuan with him. In 2006, she found the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū under Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei. From that point, she chose to devote training exclusively in Katori Shintō-ryū at Capital Katori. Sonnie received her Mokuroku in Katori Shintō-ryū in 2013. She currently serves Capital Katori as Dōjō Cho (head administrator).
Keeping to its heritage of turning away no serious student (regardless of caste or gender) the study of Katori Shintō-ryū has allowed Sonnie to demonstrate soundly the self-evident truth that excellent skill with weapons is not, nor should be, a male prerogative.
Sonnie works for a local non-profit.
