France Hoang Sensei began studying Katori Shinto Ryu under the direction of Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei in 1998. Katori Shinto Ryu is a 600-year-old comprehensive weapon style, considered to be the most distinguished of all Japanese martial traditions, and as such was designated an intangible cultural treasure by the Japanese government in April 1960. During 2000, Hoang Sensei became an in house student (uchi-deshi) to Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei at the Sugawara Sogo Budo dojo in Machida, Japan.
Hoang Sensei is honored to have received a kyoshi instructor's license in Katori Shinto Ryu from Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei. Hoang Sensei serves as the Senior Instructor at Capital Katori.
Hoang Sensei graduated in the academic top 1% of his West Point class, earned a Master of Criminal Justice from Washburn University, and graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. He has served in every branch of the U.S. Government, including service as an Associate White House Counsel and Special Assistant to the President, followed by service as the Executive Officer of a U.S. Army Special Forces Company that deployed to Afghanistan for 7 months of combat operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
